Updates

Dear Friends and Supporters,

The LPDOC is engaged in some extremely positive events, this fall that will high-light Leonard Peltier’s wrongful conviction and incarceration. We are very hopeful that he will be released this fall. With your monetary help we can get so much accomplished! Your donations really help the LPDOC do the things that are necessary in keeping the fight going for Leonard Peltier’s freedom. There is a link at the bottom of this letter that will take you to our Paypal donation page, or you can visitwww.whoisleonardpeltier.info / www.windchasesthesun.org to find more ways you can help Leonard.

We are in the middle of a new campaign for clemency for Leonard Peltier. We believe that President Obama will sign the order that sets Leonard free! Please continue to write your letters to President Obama asking him for Clemency for Leonard Peltier.

This fall we have a benefit concert, to be held in New York City, right around the beginning of December 2012. We will confirm dates for this concert by mid-October.

We are working hard to get Leonard Peltier’s name out there again in the public and continue to bring awareness and education to his cause. The funds raised will help us with legal fees and expenses related to keeping the LPDOC fighting for Leonard’s freedom.

We have dedicated new board members and volunteer staff who are helping in big ways! We will have new merchandise featured soon, so please call the LPDOC office at (701) 235-2206, and introduce yourself to the staff. We also have Leonard Peltier’s original artwork for sale, for serious inquiries, please contact Dorothy Ninham or Gina Buenrostro, at (920) 713-8114-Dorothy’s cell,(920) 713-2205-Gina’s cell. Any monetary donations are appreciated by the LPDOC, and we continue to work diligently for Leonard’s freedom.

Finally, Wind Chases the Sun, Inc. and LPDOC are partnering in an effort to raise money for one of Leonard’s favorite and fun causes, and that is for the Children’s Christmas Toy drive, where toys and donations will directly benefit children of the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota and children from Leonard’s home reservation of Turtle Mountain, North Dakota.

We thank you in advance for helping with your donations, your letters to President Obama, your thoughts and prayers for Leonard. Both the Wind Chases the Sun, Inc. and LPDOC websites have pay-pal accounts that can make your efforts to donate easier.

Please also continue to stay in touch with Leonard Peltier, you can write to him at:

LEONARD PELTIER DEFENSE OFFENCE COMMITTEE MAJOR RE-ORGANIZATION ANNOUNCED

Greetings Friends,
It is safe to say that in the case of Leonard Peltier, the more things change, the more they stay the same. In the 37 years he has been held in the US Prison system his defense committee has changed many times. People have come for a few months or even a few years, and done wonderful work, but in time they are forced by life’s realities to move on. Most have remained forever supportive of his efforts to gain freedom at last. The office has been in such diverse places as Port Angeles, Washington, Rapid City, South Dakota, Lawrence, Kansas, and Fargo, North Dakota.
What stays the same is the day to day reality for Leonard Peltier. He has lived behind the iron bars for more then half his life and he lives in a place where every single minute of his time is accounted for, 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Yet he remains strong in spirit and continues to hope for justice. He also lives some 1800 miles from his home and family. We would like to change that reality very soon.
We are announcing a total reorganization of the Defense Committee and the first step in producing that change will be in naming a new coordinator of all Support Groups world-wide. That person will also become the manager of the LPDOC office in Fargo, North Dakota effective almost immediately
We are pleased to announce that Paulette Dauteuil (Robideau) who has been a political organizer since the sixties will take over those two very important positions as of September 1st.  She has been committed to bringing about social change and justice through political movements for many years. She is connected to many powerful social change organizations around the world and we expect that her arrival in Fargo will bring an almost instantaneous spark of new energy for Leonard. She has worked on the Peltier case for decades and knows the ins and outs of it as well as anyone. She will be assisted in the LPDOC office by Ryan Garcia. Ryan recently participated in the Leonard Peltier Walk for Human Rights and was with the walk from beginning to end. He is committed to working for Leonard’s freedom and we are grateful to him for his committement going forward.
Jack Magee of New Bedford Massachusetts will continue to work as media contact person and liason for members of Congress.
We are also strengthening Leonard’s veteran Board of Directors and will have an announcement on that very soon.
And we are very pleased to announce a major concert event to be held in New York city this fall. Date and acts TBA.
We are happy to say that Leonard’s case is enjoying a flurry of new media activity and we invite all those who care for him to join us going forward in an all-out effort to put his case back on the front pages and into the hearts and minds of all those who truly care about human rights and freedom.
Thank you for all of your hard work and participation over the years, now, and in the future!
