Establish a Chapter of the LPDOC

Your Function

Whether as one person or a collective, as a chapter of the LPDOC you are expected to:

  • Develop and retain a visible presence in your community

  • Coordinate actions on important dates

  • Do community outreach

  • Coordinate letter writing and phone call campaigns

  • Hold a minimum of one organizing meeting a month

  • Help raise funds for Leonard's defense fund.

It is important that you have a phone number and address that can be published so people in your area can contact you. You may want a voice mailbox and a post office box for privacy reasons. At least one person in your group must have access to e-mail.

We also ask that you send us a short update at least quarterly to let us know how you are doing and you'll be expected to submit an annual financial report. You'll receive more detail on such things once the registration process is complete.

Commitment

If you decide to form a registered LPDOC chapter, we want you to be prepared for a sometimes difficult yet rewarding experience. Be advised that operating a LPDOC chapter can and should be enjoyable, but also necessitates a very strong commitment to the struggle, involves responsibility for your group and to the LPDOC, and entails a lot of hard work.

The LPDOC is available to assist you with your chapter's needs. We will do what we can to ensure your success. Please contact us with any questions or concerns: contact@whoisleonardpeltier.info.

Much of the information contained on this site is from In the Spirit of Crazy Horse by Peter Matthiessen, the definitive work on the American Indian Movement (AIM) and the Peltier case. The author successfully defended against lawsuits brought by former Governor and Congressman William Janklow from South Dakota (convicted of manslaughter in 2003, jailed, and forced to resign his congressional seat in disgrace) and FBI Special Agent David Price in three different states, surviving an eight-year litigation. As acknowledged by the courts, Matthiessen's reputation for not being sensationalistic or scandalous is well known. He is a highly respected author and his works have received wide acclaim.
