Leonard Peltier's 50 Year TORTURE - w/ Nick Estes

Leonard Peltier, Native American who was wrongly put in horrible prison conditions decades ago, has been denied parole AGAIN. This comes after years of petitions for his release, and statements from the actual case prosecutors who said the case was a sham and he needs to be released. Nick Estes joins Jordan Chariton to go over what this denial and continued imprisonment of Leonard means for Native Americans and freedom for all.

Leonard Peltier Denied Parole After Nearly 50 Years In Prison

Leonard Peltier was denied parole on Tuesday, meaning there’s likely only one other way the ailing, 79-year-old Native American rights activist will ever be released after serving nearly 50 years in prison: If President Joe Biden intervenes and commutes his sentence.

Leonard Peltier, Native American activist imprisoned for almost 50 years, denied parole request

The U.S. Parole Commission has denied Leonard Peltier’s bid for parole, his lawyer said Tuesday, another setback in freeing Peltier, the ailing Indigenous rights activist who has long maintained his innocence in the killing of two FBI agents almost 50 years.

Leonard Peltier: 'I hope I make it to June 10'

At 80 years old, Leonard Peltier is approaching what may be his last attempt at freedom.

On June 10, the Anishinaabe elder will participate in what may be his final parole hearing. Peltier is currently serving two consecutive life sentences after being convicted of killing two FBI agents in 1975 at the Jumping Bull Ranch in South Dakota.

President Biden, listen to Indigenous voices: Free Leonard Peltier

Leonard Peltier, a citizen of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians (ND), is in his 48th year of imprisonment. He is serving two life sentences for aiding and abetting in the deaths of two FBI agents during a shootout on the Pine Ridge Indian reservation in South Dakota in 1975 – a case where his co-defendants, principally charged with the crime, were found not guilty on grounds of self-defense. Mr. Peltier will be 79 years old on September 12, 2023 – now a frail and elderly man who continues to serve out his sentence at the maximum-security facility at the United States Penitentiary – Coleman, in central Florida. Imprisoned at the age of 32, his conviction is turning into a de facto death sentence.

Top Indigenous Leaders Press Biden On Why He Hasn’t Freed Leonard Peltier

Fawn Sharp, the president of the National Congress of American Indians, said in a Monday letter to Biden that he regularly talks about his commitment to strengthening the federal government’s relationship with Native communities. But lost in that commitment is doing anything about Peltier, the Indigenous rights activist the U.S. government put in prison nearly 50 years ago after a trial riddled with misconduct and lies.

Message with love

Mitákuyepi, čhaŋtéwašteya napéčhiyuzape ye

My relatives, we’re greeting you with a happy heart and a handshake.

For many decades, the International Leonard Peltier Defense Committee (ILPDC) has organized one of the strongest and effective “Executive Clemency Campaign” for Leonard Peltier in recent years!

We’ve done this with respect, honesty, and kindness, and our path has never wavered! We continue to monitor the wellbeing of Mr. Peltier, and continue to do everything within our power to help gain his freedom.
Members of the ILPDC initiated the “Rise Up for Peltier Coalition”which consists of human rights organizations, Washington public interest lobbyists, lawyers, medical analysts, politicians, international groups, professors, journalists, and survivors of the 1975 shootout in Oglala, SD.

Our goal has always been to work peacefully with each other for the same purpose…freedom and Justice for Leonard Peltier!

Through the work of the coalition we’ve gained support of United States senators and congress members of both the House of Representatives, various state representatives, and the Democratic national committee.

We’ve successfully initiated tribal resolutions from around the United States in support of Mr. Peltier’s freedom, as well as educating and promoting healing through outreach programs and offering resources.

We’ve established partnerships with over 100 faith healers and religious organizations in North America.

The international groups and supporters have been able to gain the support of world leaders and increase the amount of supporters worldwide through advocating and persistence.
For years, the board and committee members of the ILPDC have gone to the United Nations forums on Indigenous People’s Rights in support of Leonard’s freedom.

In June 2022 the United Nations wrote a 17-page report in support of Leonard’s immediate release from the arbitrary detention that he has been in for 48 years.

And for the first time ever, Leonard Peltier’s name was mentioned at the White House press conference on two separate occasions, something that has never happened before.
Now, within the last two years the ILPDC has been attacked. And in the world of activism, when you get attacked, you know you’re doing a good job!

But this attack has been malicious and ruthless and vicious, to say the least.
They have attacked the character of our committee members along with Mr. Peltier’s family and longtime friends, and even some supporters, with accusations that are unfounded and unsubstantiated. These attacks are clearly made to cause division.
We support all groups and individuals that promote unity and cohesion, and everyone that has the same agenda, which is to protect land and life, and to fight for the freedom of Leonard Peltier, peacefully and with respect to all.
Leonard is very vulnerable and susceptible to false prophets. That is what’s happening right now, as it has many times over the last 48 years.
Colleen Rowley, retired FBI agent, has stated that the FBI has a vendetta to keep Leonard Peltier in prison.

Think about that…..The highest law-enforcement agency in the country will do everything they possibly can to keep one man in prison!!

~Let’s remember what the tactics are for
Cointelpro:

Causing Dissension, Disruption, Disorganization and Discrediting leadership.
Now, ask yourself, “Why would anybody want to disrupt a campaign that is accomplishing its objectives?”

The ILPDC committee was established over 40 years by Mr. Peltier’s cousin, Steve Robideau to look out for the best interest of Mr. Peltier and fight for his freedom.

We will continue to do that with honesty and respect.

FBI’s opposition to releasing Leonard Peltier driven by vendetta, says ex-agent

The FBI’s repeated opposition to the release of Leonard Peltier is driven by vindictiveness and misplaced loyalties, according to a former senior agent close to the case who is the first agency insider to call for clemency for the Indigenous rights activist who has been held in US maximum security prisons for almost five decades.

Who Is Leonard Peltier?

Native American activist Leonard Peltier has spent over 40 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Prosecutors and federal agents manufactured evidence against him (including the so-called “murder weapon”); hid proof of his innocence; presented false testimony obtained through torturous interrogation techniques; ignored court orders; and lied to the jury. People are commonly set free due to a single constitutional violation, but Peltier—innocent and faced with a staggering number of constitutional violations—has yet to receive equal justice.

Peltier’s Release is Widely Supported

The National Congress of American Indians (representative of over 500 Indian nations in the United States) unanimously passed an historic resolution on Mr. Peltier’s behalf in late 2011. Various other governments, dignitaries, and human rights organizations from around the world have also called for Leonard Peltier’s release.

James Reynolds Former US Attorney  said (The Guardian 01/04/2017) of Leonard, “You’re not really participating in the crime yourself. Just because you’re there, you’re going to get nailed.” Citing Peltier’s motives, Reynolds added, “he didn’t go out there with the intention to kill anybody. He was trying to protect his people”

Note:  Much of the information contained on this site is derived from “In the Spirit of Crazy Horse” by the renowned author Peter Matthiessen. The book is the definitive work on the American Indian Movement (AIM) and the Peltier case. The author successfully defended against lawsuits brought by former Governor and Congressman William Janklow from South Dakota (convicted of manslaughter in 2003, jailed, and forced to resign his congressional seat in disgrace) and FBI Special Agent David Price in three different states, surviving an eight-year litigation. As acknowledged by the courts, Matthiessen’s “reputation for not being sensationalistic or scandalous is well known. He is a highly respected author and his works have received wide acclaim.”
