The Indigenous Fine Art Market (IFAM) has just announced that imprisoned Native activist Leonard Peltier applied for and was juried into this year’s Festival. Peltier is widely known as a painter (and a writer) and his booth will be curated by his son Chauncey Peltier. Proceeds from the sale of his paintings will benefit Peltier’s release efforts. This is the first time his work will be shown at a high profile fine art market. IFAM President John Torres Nez has been an activist for Native Prisoners Rights for many years through his work with HOPE-Howse and the Grey Eagles, a self-help group in the New Mexico State Penitentiary. Amnesty International placed Peltier’s case under the “Unfair Trials” category of its 2010 Annual Report. For more information regarding the art of Leonard Peltier see – peltierart.com .
